March --" Is the Philippine Government serious in Peac Talk?' --Haj Ibrahim  Murad

On March 01, 2008, all the packs of the US Troops for the Balikatan Exercises were done. they were now ready to go back to their homeland after serving Lanao del Sur and marawi City for 13 days.
During their stint, there were 3,000 natives, as listed given medicines in five municipalities. There were also a number of natives that were not in the list but they were still given medicines, made from different pharmaceuticals of the country, were purchased locally by certified provincial health doctors and nurses to ensure that they are safe. the US Navy engineers, together with the Phikkklipppine Army engineers had built lot of school buildings and classrooms withCR in Basak, Marawi City.

It is sad to note, however that the nativesat first did not welcome the American troops because of their fear that in the past their ancestors had suffered greatly from the American troops. The US men did not mind norcomplained about the cold receptionof some Maranaos (native of Lanao del Sur) towards them. They served Lanao and left the country after their tasks were done.

On the other hand, while watching news on televisions, we found that the ZTE-NBN deal made our country chaotic. the rallied spectrum of witnesses in their alleged corruption case by the Administration had disturbed even the communities of the CBCP (Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines) president Angel Lagdameo, D.D. made a statement.

" We face today a crisis of truth and the pervading cancer of corruption. We must seek the truth and we must restore integrity. These are the moral values needing spiritual and moral insights. We are convinced that the search for truth in the midst of charges and allegations must be determined and relentless. The way to truth and integrity must be untrammeled, especially at the present time when questions about the moral ascendancy of the present government are being raised... May the Lord bless us in this sacred undertaking to build a new kind of Philippines, and may our Mother be our companion and guide in this journey to truth and integrity."

On the other hand, the once a year committee meeting of the MILF caravan in our place, with the AFP and the PA escorting them to the Islamic City of Marawi on March 8 to 11, 2008 was not surprising. With the uncertainty of concludiing a peace pact with the government, which was believed to be possible still during the remaining term if PGMA, the people felt so anxious. but given the delays in the resumption of the peace talk, wether the reasons were circumstantial or not, the prospect of signing it was already held suspect. This is one of the reasons why this consultation meeting of the MILF was held.

In Davao City on March 9 & 10, there was a convention on electoral reform for a possible and credible ARMM election on August 11, 2008.
Finally, on March 24-28, 2008, the country celebrated the World Water Day. There was exposition, exhibit and forums on environment and water at the Ninoy Wildlife Park, Department of Environment & Natural Resiurces (DENR) Centra, MAnila
While all these things were happening and done, all people, too, were vigilant because March is not only a Month of Peace and Sanitation, but it is also Women's Month and fire prevention Month.
