രേഗര്‍ദിംഗ് ക്ലിമറെ Climate

greenery EDITORIAL: In a recent survey on the internet regarding climate change, some skeptic bloggers stated that the breaking news about the Earth’s misbehavior is freak info. They do not believe what scientists have been proving, since some say, that it is a “Climate Change Scam.” Yet the Nobel-prize winning climate scientists have apologized for their glaring errors that wrongly predicted that glaciers in the Himalayas could melt away by 2035-- hundreds of years earlier than their data actually indicates. Few cynics, like me, believe that air, water, soil have nurturing spirits. My Mindanao (a poem)

Siphon Peace Nasaag nga Kalinaw Anus’a Kutob Ni Janet An S. Braza Ang pagpit-os ning akong dughan, Mga luha nahaw-as sa tibud -- Alang sa akong yutang Mindanao. Kalanrakas dinhi ug ngadto Kristiyano kaman, Lumad o Moro!

Jennifer’s Slippers and Damp Dresses Js Braza Malabang, Lanao del Sur, Tuesday, January 27, 2009 --- While conducting a follow-up investigation of a vehicular incident where a platoon of the 51st IB was involved at Brgy Timbangan, Binidayan, Lanao del Sur (a remote baranggay near Malabang), a girl approaches them asking for help. In their conversation, they found out that she was a victim of child trafficking. She revealed that she was brought to Binidayan by a certain Hadji Amer, a businessman who owns a stall in the public market of Malaybalay, Bukidnon. In Binidayan, she was sold to Kali Amerol, a resident of Brgy Timbangan, Binidayan, who then subsequently handed her over to the former’s brother Kabukar Amerol to become his “wife”. In a house where she stayed, she was made to work not only in the home but also in the farm. If she refused to work, she would be told that she was bought by Ten Thousand Pesos (Php10,000), a 51st IB PA Intelligence Officer said. When I intervie...

Elusive Peace

The Elusive Peace in Mindanao Janet An Braza At early dawn of Friday, August 15, 2008, it was learned that the residents in Lapayan, Lanao del Norte (LDN) requested for a military support for they were threatened during their previous harvests of their crops particularly coconuts and Gimelina trees in Upper Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte. This threat was already a problem even during the time of former Mayor Jack Maruhom. Non-Muslim crop owners and peasants were not in good terms with the Muslim landowners of the place specifically regarding to the transactions sharing of their harvests. On Saturday, August 16, Aldrin Tan, a rich crop owner in Lapayan, had earned Php500, 000, more or less, from copra sales. In the evening of that day, he had some Maranao visitors in his home who were asking money from him. Whether he gave money to his visitors, she did not know, said his house helper, whom I had interviewed during the evacuation. On the eve of August 17, the Muslim neighborhood in Lapayan ...
